A gunman opened fire on a South Tulsa apartment complex with a semi-automatic assault rifle on Friday night. Homicide detectives were called to the scene at the Copper Mill Apartments near 71st Street & Yale.
News On 6 anchor Craig Day reports Tulsa police and homicide detectives are looking for a suspect and attempting to determine what happened that led to the double shooting in the apartment.
Police responded to the shooting call at about 7:20 p.m. They found two men dead on the floor with gunshot wounds to the stomach. Police say they were shot with an SKS assault rifle at close range.
Five people were inside the apartment including two suspects. The victims' names haven't been released, but one victim lived in the apartment and the second is actually a suspect in the case.
Neighbors say they can't believe what happened.
"That's scary. It really is, scary for my kids, scary for my family. It makes me think twice about staying here," said Scott Jones.
Other residents were also surprised.
"Startling, a wake-up call, I guess. It can happen anywhere," said Zach Schaleen.
Police say the suspect was last seen leaving in an older model white van. Interpreters were working with witnesses to get a better description of what happened.
