The plane that crashed in Wagoner County on Saturday morning was piloted by 54-year-old Rex Niver of Tulsa. The Highway Patrol says it was an experimental plane.

It is reported that the engine cut out when Niver was taking off from the Hefner-Easley Airport around 10:30 a.m. Niver was able to get the engine going and was turning around when it cut out again. The highway patrol says the plane fell 350 feet into a wooded area.

Niver was treated for a minor head injury and released from a local hospital.

His passenger, 63-year-old Michael Christianson was not hurt.
