"We are excited to begin building quality, creative work space for our Tulsa employees," said David Griffin, President and C.E.O. of the company. "Our current facility is far too small to house our growing workforce here--in fact, we have been forced to rent space a block from the building to house our sales teams. It will be great to get them all back under one roof in a building in which they can take great pride."
Completion of the building, located at 106 East Cameron Street, is targeted for summer 2009. When finished, the Media Center will provide access to Tulsans for visitor tours and community group meetings.
"It's important to us to remain in downtown Tulsa and open our doors to the community," said co-owner John Griffin. "Our family has a 100-year history of business and community involvement that we plan to extend into the future."
The new building will be dedicated to parents of John and David Griffin - Martha Griffin of Muskogee, and the late John Griffin, both long-time supporters of Oklahoma charities and artists. They pioneered television in the state of Oklahoma, signing on News 9 (KWTV) in Oklahoma City, which the Griffins have retained since 1953.
"Our parents took the responsibility that comes with media ownership very seriously, " said David Griffin. "Their values of operating a business with a strong reputation, appreciating employees and serving our communities are deeply instilled in the members of our family and within our companies. It was their vision that created an Oklahoma media company focused only on improving conditions in our state and it is fitting that we recognize them with this dedication."
Within the spirit of the company's slogan, "Oklahoma's Very Own", Griffin will utilize Oklahoma vendors to plan and build the new media center, including architects Rees Associates from Oklahoma City, civil and structural engineers Wallace Engineering and general contractor Manhattan Construction.
