A chalice that'll be used by Pope Benedict XVI when he comes to the U.S. in April is getting some work done in Tulsa.
Workers at F.C. Ziegler, at 415 East 12th, are cleaning the sterling silver piece and polishing it. Then, they'll plate it in 24-karat gold, bringing the chalice back to the way it was when it was new. While the refinishing manager says this project isn't complicated, it's one of company's biggest jobs.
"I believe one time we did a monstrance that was on display at one of the papal visits, but nothing to my knowledge, that has ever been handled or used by one of the popes," said Ziegler's Don Taylor.
One of the company's customers lives in Washington, D.C. and has ties to the archdiocese there. When church leaders said they wanted to have the chalice worked on, the customer told them F.C. Ziegler is one of the best in the country.
