A two-truck caravan transported Bartlesville’s replica of the state’s first oil well to its new home Thursday morning. The new Nellie Johnstone No. 1 oil derrick was moved from west of town to Bartlesville’s Johnstone Park. The 15-ton oil derrick was transported in two sections.

A replica of the derrick, built in 1964, was dismantled in August to make way for this new replica.

The location in Bartlesville's Johnstone Park is where the historic Nellie Johnstone No. 1 well was first drilled over 110 years ago. The historical well sparked an oil boom in Oklahoma.
