NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ A fast-moving line of storms hit the Nashville area Monday as commuters were headed home, downing a few trees and leaving about 4,000 customers without electricity.

No one was reported hurt and there was only minor property damage even though the city was under a tornado watch during the evening rush hour.

``Mostly we had just a good rain, which we badly needed,'' said Jeremy Heidt, a spokesman for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.

Some crews from the Nashville Electric Service were called back in to help restore power. About 8,000 customers were without electricity at 6 p.m. but the number had been reduced several hours later.

The Nashville area and counties to the south reported heavy rain, hail, gusty winds and lightning.

Winds reached 70 mph in some areas.

Traffic was snarled in Nashville because of pooling water on the streets.
