BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) _ Detectives with Baton Rouge police arrested an LSU football player on campus Thursday afternoon.
Derrick Odom III of Jackson, Mississippi, is now facing some serious charges. Police accused him of trying to break in to a condo. Detectives believe Odom went to the home after getting into an argument with a young man who lives there. That young man called his father, and police say the linebacker allegedly threatened the father. Detectives say once Odom couldn't force his way through the condo's door, he vandalized the young man's car in the parking lot.
Several other LSU players allegedly were involved, but Odom apparently was the aggressor.
Unidentified sources told WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge that the victims in the case initially asked only for an apology and for Odom to pay for the damages. LSU officials were trying to arrange that, but Odom denied everything and charges were filed.
LSU spokesman Michael Bonnett confirmed the arrest and said coach Les Miles has suspended Odom from the team while an investigation into the incident continues.
Odom was red-shirted as a freshman last year, but was expected to see some playing time this season in a backup capacity.
