Windmills will soon come sweeping down the assembly line in Oklahoma. North Dakota-based DMI Industries will be building them in Tulsa, and they’re looking to hire 450 windmill makers. The News On 6’s Steve Berg reports the jobs are good paying jobs, as much as $23 an hour in some cases, which officials say puts them in the top 10% for this kind of plant.

A constant stream of job seekers were walking in and out of the Renaissance Hotel Tuesday, including Ollie Hill.

"The room was packed, and there were people standing in the hallway, so there was quite a few people," said job seeker Ollie Hill.

Hill lost his job when the city's Trash-to-Energy plant shut down. And he's finding that recycling one's career can be a little scary.

"Yes, if you have a family it gets interesting after awhile," he said.

"This will be our third facility, but a very important facility," ? Moller ? said.

Important enough that the owner himself came to Tulsa. In a down-to-earth fashion not always seen in CEO's he was right in the thick of it, chatting for a long time with job seekers.

"Being here, it's what I do for a living. Talk to staff and potential employees, tell them what we're all about and why we think we can be a good spot to work," said Moller. "It's an awesome start. It's exactly what we had hoped for, I would guess we've had about 200 people show up, and we've only been here for a couple of hours."

But they've been researching Tulsa for three years, and they say while it's a little hotter than North Dakota, it has similar skills and work ethic.

"A lot of folks here work in the steel, steel business, same backgrounds, same solid social patterns," Moller said. "So this is somewhat familiar turf for us, working in steel if you wish, for 36 months, but it's just a great community to be in."

DMI is offering a $1,000 signing bonus to the first 100 hires. The job fair runs until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Renaissance Hotel located at 6808 S 107th East Ave, that’s off U.S. Highway 169 near 71st Street. You can also apply online at www.windtowers.com.

DMI expects to have the factory up and running by early next year. They say it might eventually become larger than the original factory in North Dakota.
