A teen is in custody after he shot at a Tulsa police officer late Saturday, officials say. It all started around 11:30 p.m. Saturday when authorities responded to an armed robbery call at the Sheridan Apartments at 626 S. Sheridan. The occupants of the apartment say they became suspicious after they were approached by a male, who was followed by several other males. The resident tried to barricade the door, and the suspects fired two shots into the apartment, said police.
No one in the apartment was injured, and the gunmen left the scene.
A short time after the shooting an officer saw the suspect’s car near 19th and Memorial. The officer stopped the car and a teen took off running. Two other juveniles stayed in the vehicle and were taken into custody for questioning, said police.
While officers set up a perimeter to track the suspect they heard several shots fired in the 21st and Memorial area, authorities said. The suspect was then discovered in an alley behind an old pool hall.
“In that alley was a police officer who was fired at, he returned fire three times with his shotgun,†said Tulsa Police Captain Matt Kirkland. “The officer was not struck, the suspect was not struck.â€
The suspect ran from the scene, jumping over a privacy fence into a backyard. Tulsa police quickly contacted the residents in the area.
“Officers were engaged in making contact with the residents to make sure they were okay and placing an officer in their homes to prevent a hostage situation,†Kirkland said.
The suspect later surrendered. He and the two occupants of the car were taken into custody. They’ll be questioned about Saturday night’s events, as well as other crimes in which they match suspect descriptions, officers said.
