OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ State corrections officials say a performance audit of state prisons will likely show what they have known all along, that the agency is under funded. State lawmakers say the independent audit is the only way to cut through the politics of prison funding.
The audit is being performed by Florida-based MGT America. The company is getting paid $844,000 for its work. The company employs former corrections leaders to conduct the audits and has reviewed corrections departments in states such as Illinois and Florida.
The audit will look at prison administration, population management, field operations, community supervisions, re-entry programs and institution operations. The Criminal Justice Resource Center and the Oklahoma Sentencing Commission will also be reviewed.
