Volunteers are paving the way for the PGA. Brookside residents and business owners are cleaning up their neighborhood in advance of the PGA Championship. Neighbors say they were embarrassed of scraggly looking plants in the Peoria Avenue medians, so they decided to do something about it. An army of volunteers swooped in to make Peoria something to be proud of.

"We had a couple of neighbors drive by, see what we were doing, stopped their cars and joined us in the efforts,” Brookside resident Barbara Van Hanken said. “So we're really coming together in a community effort and that's what it's about."

Saturday’s clean-up event is the first joint effort by both Brookside business owners and homeowners.
