Abston Sentencing Delayed

Federal sentencing for David Abston has been delayed. Abston pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography on his home computer and was scheduled to be sentenced next week, but that has been postponed. News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports Abston has outlined some reasons why he thinks the judge should be lenient on him.

Abston claims he should get a lighter sentence because of some mysterious information he's given the FBI. His attorney says that information is about a high-priority case that could help the government catch a far bigger criminal than Abston. Abston did testify at a federal grand jury, but that is all secret, so we don't know what it has to do with, but the words national security have been used.

Meanwhile, Abston says he also deserves a break because he used to be a cop, and has given money and time to law enforcement. He even says he once gave an anonymous tip to the Broken Arrow police about a child who was being molested. Plus, he's in his 50s and this is his first arrest.

What do the federal prosecutors have to say about this?

They say whatever Abston told the FBI in Oklahoma City has nothing to do with this case. They point out Abston had more than 600 images of children in graphic, sexual poses on his computer. Plus, he faces dozens of charges of molesting children in state court.

Abston's attorney wants him to get less than 10 years on the federal charges, prosecutors are asking for more than that.
