CHICAGO (AP) A United Airlines Thanksgiving dinner for employees left a bad taste for some guests who suffered nausea and vomiting.

Five airline workers sought medical attention on Thursday after the dinner for nearly 3,000 mechanics, baggage handlers and other employees working at O'Hare International Airport. Flight crews didn't participate.

The holiday dinner was seen as a conciliatory gesture to employees. United's unions have been criticizing the company for awarding tens of millions of dollars in pay increases and bonuses to top managers after employees took big pay cuts to help it survive bankruptcy.

United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy says one of the meals for dayshift crews quickly ended after staff found that the turkey, quote, ``was not edible.''

The medical director at the airport office of the University of Illinois-Chicago Medical Center says the actual illness hasn't been diagnosed.

United says at least three of the sick employees were able to go back to work.
