(New York-AP) -- Former Oklahoma State shooting guard Tony Allen is going to the Boston Celtics.

He was the 25th pick in the first round of the NBA draft Thursday night.

Twenty-two-year-old Allen was named Big 12 MVP after leading the Cowboys to the conference title last season.

He guided Oklahoma State to an impressive NCAA tournament run before the team was eliminated in the national semifinals by Georgia Tech.

Allen has elusive speed and is a good rebounding guard; he averaged 5.5 boards in college.

His aggressiveness on offense helps him get to the free-throw line with regularity, but he made just 67% of his foul shots last season.

He's a good shooter but lacks NBA three-point range. He's one of the better defensive shooting guards in the draft.
