A Tulsa County Sheriff's deputy is put on leave after shooting an auto theft suspect. The deputy says the man tried to run him down with a stolen truck.
Deputies answered an attempted robbery call Sunday afternoon in north Tulsa. They spotted the suspect's truck and tried to stop him, but the man drove off. The deputy caught up with the suspect once more, but the suspect apparently wouldn't stop peacefully.
Tulsa County Sheriff's Sgt Willie Lewis: "The individual did not stop, aimed his vehicle at a deputy and began driving toward the deputy, our deputy fired several shots into the vehicle."
Resident Joe Nalyes: "I came out to the front and saw all these police cars out here and saw officers with their guns drawn."
The Sheriff's office says the deputy fired several shots, hitting the suspect in the arm. But the suspect took off again. Deputies did finally catch up with him, and discovered the truck was stolen.
An investigation is underway. The sheriff's office has not released any names.
