(Stillwater-AP) -- John Lucas the Third came to Stillwater under tragic circumstances.
But the basketball player says he's glad to be in Oklahoma.
Three months ago, his former Baylor teammate Patrick Dennehy, was found dead near Waco and another teammate, Carlton Dotson was indicted for the crime.
At Oklahoma State's basketball media day, Lucas said his time in Stillwater is a new start for him.
Lucas is filling a void for the Cowboys. OSU returned only two starters from last season's 22-10 team and needs help in the backcourt after the departure of point guard Victor Williams.
Coach Eddie Sutton was resigned to entering the season without a true floor leader. Then Lucas stepped in.
Sutton says he prefers coaching Lucas instead of having to coach against him.
Lucas scored 20 points in Baylor's 74-72 upset of the 13th-ranked Cowboys last season.
