(Tulsa-AP) -- A labor union is asking the Oklahoma Supreme Court to overturn a judge's ruling upholding the state's right-to-work law.

The Eastern Oklahoma Building and Construction Trades Council is appealing the ruling of Tulsa County District Judge David Peterson.

Peterson upheld the law in July, despite saying he agrees with the argument that it unfairly requires unions to represent workers who don't pay dues.

He said the case would be better off decided by the state Supreme Court.

Voters approved the right-to-work law in September 2001. It prohibits clauses in union contracts that require workers to pay union dues.
