(Muskogee-AP) -- Financial problems and declining membership has forced Muskogee's YMCA to shut down.

The Y shut down Wednesday, a month after national YMCA officials threatened to pull the Y's charter if it could not provide leadership by September. The Y has spent long periods of time without a certified director.

The Y's athletic director, Debbie Bailey, says she doesn't know if the problem is the local Y or lack of support in the community. She says she can't reopen without enough money to pay off all the utilities and vendors she owes.

The local Public Works Committee will look at the issue at its next meeting.
