The U-S Department of Agriculture has announced loan funds are available to help low-income rural residents get storm shelters.

Rural Development State Director Brent Kisling says severe weather can strike unexpectedly in Oklahoma, but the installation of a storm shelter can be costly.

The federal loan funds are being made available through USDA's rural housing program.

They will provide 100 percent financing of the shelter at terms
of 1 percent interest for 20 years.

Eligible applicants for the program are very low-income rural homeowners.
