TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ A school security guard who shot at a high school student has been given one year probation after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor.

Ronald Lee Littles Jr., 25, was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest to recklessly handling a firearm. The case will be dismissed after the year if Littles does not violate the probation.

Littles, who can continue to work as a security guard for Burns International Security Services Corp. but not at the school, also had to pay $250 to the court fund and $125 to the victims compensation fund.

Littles shot at, but missed, a suspended student on the grounds of Tulsa Science High after a verbal confrontation in October, police say. Littles said he saw Jermaine Cox, 18, reach for a weapon, which police never found.

Littles' bullet hit a 15-year-old student in the pocket, shattering his wireless phone and grazing the boy's face with a piece of plastic, police say.
