A recent study of 186 children using "sippy cups" found almost a third of them had symptoms of tooth decay.
The Academy of General Dentistry says parents should take care to not let kids suck on sippy cups too long, because sugars in those drinks can soak the teeth and lead to decay.
Speech pathologists are also taking aim at sippy cups, too.
They say kids who drink from them too long in childhood can develop speech problems that simulate that same sucking motion.
Experts say try to use sippy cups primarily for snack and mealtimes, when increased saliva can help clean teeth.
If you allow sugary drinks, teach your child to drink from a straw.
The Academy also suggests you wipe children's teeth with a damp cloth once a day, until age two then you can start using a soft bristle toothbrush.
