(Chicago-AP) -- Pat Kennedy has coached his final game at DePaul. The basketball coach has stepped down Tuesday following a 9-and-19 season that concluded with Friday's loss to Marquette.

Kennedy says he informed athletic director Bill Bradshaw of his plans Sunday, calling it the single most difficult decision of his career.

The Blue Demons failed to even qualify for this year's Conference USA tournament and finish 67-and-75 in five seasons under Kennedy.

DePaul enjoyed a revival once Kennedy took over the program. He reversed a trend by managing to lure several Chicagoland players to the school. But many of those players left early, including Quentin Richardson.

The resignation comes only two years after he led DePaul to the NCAA tournament.
