Federal money has been secured to study whether 2 towns in Oklahoma's Tar Creek Superfund Site should be relocated.
Picher and Cardin are located right in the middle of the superfund site. Residents have suffered problems related to lead found in soil and chat piles located outside the towns. Now, $300,000 will fund a study to determine if the area should be turned into a wetlands preserve. The money must be matched locally for the study.
If the superfund site is made into wetlands, Picher and Cardin will be moved elsewhere.
