Health officials say it's now time to begin taking flu shots and there should be ample supply. Flu season can begin as early as December, so October and November are the best months to be vaccinated, though you can still take a shot after that.
Tulsa's Visiting Nurse Association is one of several health agencies and doctors' offices offering flu shots. VNA will begin setting up at grocery and drug stores and offices next Monday, October 29th. They ask that only the high-risk population visit first. Adrienne Yocham, Visiting Nurse Assoc: "After November 1st, we want to open it up to everyone. Until that time, we're asking the generally healthy public to stay home and wait. We've got plenty. We want to take care of those people who are at higher risk.â€
The high-risk category includes people 50 and older, residents of long term care facilities, those with chronic health problems, and pregnant women in the second or third trimester during peak flu season.
