SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE:SBC), a global communications leader, has been awarded a ground-breaking managed services contract that guarantees the Postal Service $15 million in savings over two years. SBC will be paid a portion of savings it achieves beyond the guaranteed $15 million.
SBC Federal Solutions Group will maximize the efficiency and minimize the costs of voice network services at a majority of the 37,550 Postal Service sites. It will ensure optimal network capacity at each site, leverage volume discounts, and centralize maintenance help desk services at 2,500 high volume sites.
"The United States Postal Service is dedicated to operating as efficiently as any of our private enterprise competitors," said Tom Nicolosi, managed voice services project manager, USPS. "Our managed voice services contract with SBC is an important element in the Postal Service's Supply Chain Management program to reduce costs throughout the organization."
"Applying management controls to the Postal Service's voice networks will help them deliver better service for less money," said Doug Dangremond, executive director, SBC Federal Solutions Group. "That's great news for the Postal Service and their customers nationwide, and its good business for SBC."
The Managed Voice Services contract was enabled by an official Letter of Agency to SBC from the Purchasing and Materials Contracting Officer as part of the Breakthrough Productivity Initiative.
