LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ A Chinese man accused of killing a fellow Purdue University graduate student and her sister pleaded innocent to two counts of murder Thursday.
Zhan Yin, 27, was charged with killing Yeunkyung Woo, 31, a doctoral student in biology, and her sister, Hyo Kyung Woo, 29, of Chicago.
Yin, also a doctoral student in biology, was arrested late Tuesday, police said. The sisters, both South Korean citizens, died Aug. 1 of blunt force trauma and cuts, Tippecanoe County Coroner Martin Avolt said.
Authorities have not said why they focused on him and have not revealed a possible motive.
The Customs Service alerted local authorities after Yin was denied entry at the Canadian border. Police in Amherst, outside Buffalo, arrested Yin at a gas station without incident.
If convicted, he could face up to 65 years in prison on each count.
Yin's lawyer, Amy Hutchison, declined to comment to reporters after his court appearance.
