A big grass fire near Liberty-Mounds has been contained, but firefighters had to battle Mother Nature to get it done.

Firefighters had their hands full, because of the winds, which fueled the flames and hampered efforts to start backfires. Crews from six departments were able to get some backfires going and bulldozers were used to close it off.

The fire scorched more than 500 acres. And no homes or buildings were damaged.
