Former Tulsa, ORU coach back from surgery

(Champaign, Illinois-AP) -- Former Tulsa and Oral Roberts coach Bill Self is back on the job in Illinois two weeks after colon surgery.

Self says he'll be back to eight-hour days next week. He'll lead a team of Big Ten players against teams in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands next month.

Doctors removed 12 inches from Self's colon and the coach says staples would probably keep him from passing though airport metal detectors if he tried to fly now.

Self says he's known he needed surgery since December when he was hospitalized during the team's road trip to Arizona.
