(Jay-AP) -- A sheriff's declaration has turned the case of a missing woman into a homicide investigation.
Sheriff Lenden Woodruff says he's at a disadvantage because the case files in Barbara Johson-Willard's disappearance are missing.
Johnson-Willard vanished from her home six years ago. Family members became worried when she didn't show up for a Fathers Day gathering.
An analysis of blood and other fluids found in Johnson-Willard's abandoned car indicates they came from a dead person. DNA evidence also suggests the missing woman was in the car and that she was dead.
Johnson-Willard's sister says the sheriff's decision does bring relatives some resolution.
