They're a popular part of the Fourth of July. But while fireworks can be dazzling, they can also be deadly.

Fireworks stands open across Oklahoma this weekend. And if history holds true, safety experts say fireworks will injure thousands of kids this summer, especially eyes and hands.

That’s why Tulsa firefighters, like Tulsa Fire marshal, Paul Gallahar says they are already offering warnings. “It's so easy to underestimate what fireworks can do, but they can be devastating. There are cases of individuals who have been blinded, the mangled hand, and of course they are fire hazards.”

And a legal reminder. Setting off fireworks in Tulsa's city limits is against the law, and it could earn you a fine up to $500. Tulsa firefighters ask that you leave the displays to the professionals.
