Memorial Day weekend is time when many Oklahoma boaters head to the lake.
While folks enjoy a weekend on the water, the National Insurance Crime Bureau is putting out a warning. The group says more than 1,000 boats will be stolen this month alone. There are some things you can do to make it harder for crooks to do their jobs.
Don't leave the keys in your boat's ignition. You may as well just hand them to a thief.
Chain your boat to the dock when it's not in use.
And consider installing a circuit breaker. When it's in the off position, the boat won't start.
Experts say the best way to avoid boat theft is to use a combination of these methods.
