(Norman-AP) -- A U-S Commerce Conference Report has approved three (m) million dollars for an Oklahoma Weather Center that would be built on the University of Oklahoma campus.

The center will be the largest weather research center of its kind in the nation.

The center is to have a section for O-U's school of Meteorology and another section for weather research specialists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The state is providing $4 million for Phase One of the center, which funds final design and site preparation.

U-S Representative J-C Watts says the bill now needs the signature of President Clinton, who has publicly expressed support for the facility.

O-U President David Boren says Clinton has included the weather center in his budget request.
