LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shelley Fabares is recuperating from liver transplant surgery and a full recovery is expected, a spokesman said Thursday.

The 56-year-old actress had the surgery this week.

Her liver had deteriorated due to an autoimmune disorder, said Danny Chung, national spokesman for the Chicago-based Alzheimer's Association. Fabares, whose late mother had Alzheimer's disease, has long served on the association's board.

Chung did not disclose other details.

Fabares, wife of ``Providence'' actor Mike Farrell, is best known for her television roles as teen-age daughter Mary Stone on ``The Donna Reed Show'' and the wife of the Craig T. Nelson character on ``Coach.''
