A body was found floating in the Arkansas River Sunday night. People walking along Tulsa's Riverparks spotted the body near the east bank by the 21st Street brigde.

Police are working to identify the body and try to determine the cause of death. Officers describe the body as a white man around forty years old. He has a tattoo in the design of a face and the number “13” on his left shoulder.

Police estimate the body had been in the water for more than 12 hours. They say that given the speed of the current, the man could have floated downstream from as far away as Sand Springs.

"We launched our boat in the river and started searching for it,” said Dave Umfleet, Tulsa Fire Department spokesman. “By the time we got out boat in the river, crews on the shore on the east bank had already spotted the body so they directed us right to it."

Authorities say they didn't see any signs of trauma on the body, but will wait for the medical examiner’s report on the cause of death.
