(Washington-AP) -- Some new tests that have been done on the bullet that killed John F. Kennedy in Dallas are raising doubts about the second-gunman theory. Scientists found that some material on the nose of the bullet consisted of paper fibers and non-textile material. They concluded that the material could not have come from Kennedy's shirt, or the shirt worn by Texas Governor John Connally, who was wounded.

If it had, that would have supported theories that a second gunman was involved -- because the bullet would have taken a different path than the one described by the Warren Commission. The commission, which conducted the official U-S government probe of the 1963 assassination, concluded that Oswald was the only gunman. The scientists began their tests in the fall of 1998, and finished them last year. Their report was released today by the National Archives.
