A four-year-old boy has been suspended from his elementary school because he brought a toy gun to class.
Kathryn Durrett is in charge of elementary programs for Muskogee Public Schools. Durrett says the child brought a bronze-colored toy gun that makes a whirring noise when fired. She says the boy pulled it out during class at Pershing Elementary to play with it.
The child was suspended for two days. He was to be placed in another class for two days. But his mother took him out of school for those two days when the school refused to compromise on the amount of time he would be suspended.
Patricia Neal says she believed the punishment for her son was unreasonable. Neal says she didn't know of a policy against toy guns.
