OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A national study released Monday says Oklahoma high school graduates need to take more rigorous courses.

The survey by Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit Achieve, Incorporated examined state curriculum requirements as they relate to English and math benchmarks.

It found that "shockingly few" students are prepared for success after high school.

The survey suggests students take at least four years of rigorous math and four years of grade-level English. In Oklahoma, students are required to take four years of English and three years of math.

Phyllis Hudecki, who heads the Oklahoma Business and Education Coalition, says the study points out the need for more rigorous math courses for high school graduates.
