Blue Star Moms helping soldiers with special Christmas packages

For men and women serving in Iraq over the holidays, this time of year is especially difficult. For their loved ones here on the home front, having Christmas without them seems nearly impossible.

That's why the Blue Star Moms are doing their best to connect with the troops and share some of the holiday spirit. The News on Six's Heather Lewin has more on how the moms got an unexpected return on their efforts.

It came in the form of a Christmas card. One of the moms went to the mailbox Friday morning and found a surprise from Iraq. Photos of the care packages, group members had lovingly boxed up in Tulsa, piled up in the unit's headquarters, just waiting for Christmas morning.

Blue Star Mom Barbara Porter: â€œIt really gives you a sense of pride because the people in Oklahoma have just been so great behind the Blue Star Mothers donating to us and making it possible for us to do this for the troops."

So far the Tulsa chapter alone has sent 12,000 freedom boxes to US forces over the past 20 months.
