If you love golf, or even if you love a golfer and there is nothing in the current batch of golf magazines that interests you, listen closely.
News on 6 reporter Rick Wells found a couple of Tulsa businessmen who couldn't find the golf magazine they really wanted to read, so they created it.
What we really need in America is another golf magazine. Chris Riggs: "We were tired of reading about how to fix your slice how to putt better and chip better month after month after month."
They couldn't find what they wanted so they created it and this is issue number one of Golf Connoisseur. And there's not one thing about curing slices or better putting. Rocky Heinrich: "The theme is golf as a back drop but it's targeting fashion and electronics and cars all kinds of stuff."
In fact, the first issue features some of the wives of touring pros and what they are buying their husbands for Christmas. 'Tiger Woods at 50', looks ahead at what he might be able to accomplish over the next 20 years.
Chris Riggs: "We did a nice piece on Bill Murray, is he a comic generous or a nut case or everything in between."
They describe it as a lifestyle magazine more than purely a golf magazine, and it's clearly designed to feature a high end lifestyle. Chris Riggs: "The members of the top 500 private clubs will be getting the magazine. It'll also be distributed to 1,000 of the top hotels and casinos, and resorts."
It will be sold in the magazine racks of many book stores and they have plans to expand to product lines, catalogs and even travel services. They clearly have big dreams. Rocky Heinrich: "The magazine is our dream coming to life." A dream they hope lives for a long time.
A subscription might be a nice gift for the holidays.
