Tulsa women’s basketball has a new assistant coach. TU head women’s basketball coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson announced Tuesday morning the hiring of Rebecca Kates as an assistant coach. Kates, a native of Cashion, Oklahoma, comes to Tulsa after spending the 2 years Director of Operations for women’s basketball at Rice.
"We are extremely happy to have Rebecca join our staff," Thomas-Swinson said. "She will be a valuable asset both on and off the court with her leadership qualities and with her recruiting ties to the state of Oklahoma. Rebecca has been a part of successful programs as a player at Mississippi State and in her administrative role at Rice, so she knows what it takes to win, and her attention to detail will go a long way with what we need as a coaching staff.â€
24-year-old Rebecca Kates was star player at Mississippi State. During her college career, Kates scored 615 points, including 107 three-pointers, and 390 rebounds in 121 games. She also helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to three postseason appearances, including a 2005 WNIT appearance.
