You don't see many alligators in northeast Oklahoma, but some folks in south Tulsa believe they've seen one in a water detention pond near 96th and Memorial. Several Tulsa animal control officers searched the banks of the pond Wednesday, looking for what they believe is a caiman, which is a smaller cousin to an alligator. They poked in the water and searched along the bank, but didn't find anything. But those officers told the News On 6, they believe there is a caiman in the pond somewhere.
The pond is located next door to the Memorial Creek Apartments. A woman who lives in the complex told Tulsa Police an alligator approached her dog while they were on a walk Tuesday evening. Several other people have also told Tulsa Police they have seen something strange in the pond recently.
An animal control officer says what they are looking for is a reptile which is 2 to 4 feet long. They hope to drain some of the water out of the pond this week to make the caiman easier to find.
