A Tulsa police chase ends in an arrest. Late Monday night officers tried to stop a car for speeding out of the QuikTrip parking lot at 21st and 129th East Avenue, but the man refused to stop and a chase ensued.
At one point during the chase the man pulled over, but as the officer approached the car the driver drove towards the policeman, said authorities. The suspect swerved missing the officer and the chase continued, police said.
The suspect got out of the car and ran at the Sommerset Apartments, near 23rd and 137-th. During the foot chase, the suspect faced the officer and pulled an object from his pocket.
"As the suspect was throwing a knife at the officer, the officer returned fire, or opened fire, firing one time,†said Tulsa Police Captain Matt Kirkland. “The suspect was not hit; he turned around and ran again. The officer then chased him down and took him into custody without further incident."
23-year-old Nicholas Fickel now faces charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, eluding an officer and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer. Police also believe Fickel shoplifted several sandwiches from the QuikTrip.
