JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) For the first time in school history, Langston has advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division I women's basketball tournament.
The Lions beat Brescia of Kentucky 60-40 Friday to make the final 8 of the tournament in Jackson, Tennessee. Oklahoma Baptist saw its bid to reach the quarterfinals ended, though, with a 72-68 loss to Cumberland of Tennessee. Langston will play Cumberland Saturday.
Also falling in the second round today was Oklahoma City University, which lost 66-57 to Vanguard of California, and Oklahoma Christian, which fell 87-61 to host school Union of Tennessee.
In the NAIA men's tournament in Kansas City, Missouri, Oklahoma Baptist lost 86-76 in an overtime game to #1-ranked and unbeaten Robert Morris of Illinois, while Southern Nazarene fell 82-81 to Union of Tennessee.
Oklahoma City advanced to the quarterfinals with a 90-78 win Friday night over Illinois-Springfield.
