LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- Police here are seeking a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a woman whose young son found her in bed next to an infant, authorities said.
Officers discovered Krystal Marie Woods, 24, dead in an apartment Saturday afternoon, police said.
"They found her on the bed with her child," Police Chief Ronnie Smith said. "All I know was she was shot."
Police received a call about 3:40 p.m. of shots being fired, but officers couldn't find anyone who had heard gunfire. A second call made at 4:08 p.m. came from an 8-year-old boy who had found his mother, Smith said.
The infant and the 8-year-old boy weren't hurt and were taken into protective custody, pending arrangements, police Capt. Jackie LaRoche said.
Police are trying to locate a person of interest in the shooting, Michael D. Perkins, 27. The 6-foot-1, 280 pound Lawton man walks with a limp, police said.
If anyone has information or knows the whereabouts of Perkins, they are asked to call Lawton police at (580) 581-3270 or Crimestoppers at (580) 355-INFO.
