OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An Oklahoma City woman is admitting she abused her 2-year-old daughter by injecting feces into the girl who was hospitalized at the time.

Sarena Sherrard pleaded guilty to child abuse charges Tuesday in Oklahoma County District Court.

Sherrard was arrested in August 2005 after police watching video surveillance saw Sherrard inject a substance into her daughter's catheter at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City.

A police report says Sherrard told investigators she was trying to get attention for herself.

An initial report called the incident Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, a syndrome where people injure their children in order to gain attention or sympathy for themselves.

The child has since recovered.

The judge in the case is now hearing testimony to determine Sharrard's sentence.
