Sequoyah Elementary School students in Tulsa are learning pennies and patriotism are a valuable combination. They received a $1,000 check for winning the 2006 Pennies for Postage campaign.
The students collected $900 for the Blue Star Mother's Pennies for Postage contest last month. The money goes to pay postage for Freedom Boxes for US troops.
The students' generosity has really paid off. Sequoyah principal Doug Howard: “I think we'll put this money toward our playground renovation. That way all the children will benefit from it. And we'll probably have one big celebration for the school too.â€
The Blue Star Mothers sent nearly 2,000 Freedom Boxes to troops in December.
