A well known Tulsa pilot is dead after a plane crash in New Mexico. Tulsa's aviation community is mourning the loss of Dr. Guy Baldwin.

Baldwin, who is also a Tulsa doctor, died Wednesday afternoon when his single engine plane crashed at an air show in Tucumcari, New Mexico.

The shock of this tragedy is being felt from eastern New Mexico to throughout northeastern Oklahoma. Tucumcari Police say in the 14 year history of their Air Show they've never had a crash.

Dr. Guy Baldwin was an experienced and well known Tulsa pilot. There is video of some of his aerobatics from his website www.acrodoc.com.

Tucumcari Police chief Larry Ham told the News on 6, Dr. Guy Baldwin was in his third or fourth maneuver, performing what federal aviation officials described as a square loop, when his plane hit the ground belly first.

Chief Ham says the plane somersaulted several times before coming to a rest 200 yards from where it hit the ground. He says Dr. Baldwin was killed on impact.

The devastating news spread quickly through Tulsa's aviation community, where Baldwin was known as Mister Aviation. Bill Christiansen: "and he was just a great ambassador for aviation and Tulsa. And will definitely be missed dearly and my heart goes out to his many, many friends and his family."

Baldwin had 35 years of flying experience and worked as a flight medical examiner for more than 20.
