OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The group overseeing the federal buyout of contaminated land in the Tar Creek area of Ottawa County says property appraisals could start by the end of the year.
The Lead-Impacted Communities Relocation Assistance Trust is now going over applications from landowners in Picher, Cardin and Hockerville who've applied for the buyout program.
The trust received 972 pieces of mail by a Saturday deadline from those who want to be considered for the federal buyout.
Trust officials say they don't know yet if all of those are actual applications.
