TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Tulsa Police Chief Dave Been says his department will begin an accreditation process later this month.
A team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Incorporated will come to Tulsa August 20th to examine the department's policies and procedures to see how they measure up for accreditation.
The purpose of accreditation is to make sure that departments meet a level of excellence and can provide liability insurance benefits.
Tulsa and Oklahoma City are the only municipal police departments in Oklahoma that have gone through the verification process to get accredited.
Residents can offer comments at a public information session at 7 PM August 22nd in the city council room.
