WASHINGTON (AP) _ A New York company is recalling about 24,000 toy pacifiers because they pose a choking hazard to young children, the government said Thursday.
Solar Inc., a wholesale novelty distributor based in Tappan, is not aware of any injuries linked to the pacifiers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The nipple of the blinking pacifier, which doubles as a whistle, can detach from the base and become a choking hazard, it said.
The product, manufactured in China, was sold in various colors as ``Flashing Pacifier'' or ``2-in-1 Flashing Pacifier with Whistle Necklace.''
Small retail stores, distributors, dollar stores and the company's Web site sold the pacifiers from January 2004 to February 2005 for about $1.
Consumers are urged to discard the pacifiers or return them to the store for a refund.
More information is available by calling Solar at 800-837-6527, weekdays 9 a.m.-5 p.m. EDT.
